Youth and community members in Kyebitaka village, Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, came together to participate in the collective mudding activity for the IGRAO Early Childhood Development (ECD) Nursery Block.
This shared effort represents more than physical construction: it is a practical demonstration of community ownership, volunteerism, unity, and shared commitment to the education of displaced children. When a community unites behind a common purpose, even modest local resources become a durable foundation for a better future.
Grassroots Volunteerism in Action
In refugee settlements across Western Uganda, educational infrastructure is often severely overburdened. Rather than waiting for external interventions, parents and youth mobilized with hand tools, carrying clay, mixing soil, and applying the protective mudding layer to reinforce the nursery classroom walls.
Our children deserve a safe, supportive, and conducive environment where they can learn, grow, and develop their potential. Having a weather resistant classroom close to home protects young learners from long, dangerous walking distances and keeps them engaged in daily education.
