Basic Education & Child Protection

Education is the foundational bridge from displacement to self reliance. In Kyebitaka and surrounding zones, thousands of refugee children face exclusion due to inability to afford basic school fees, scholastic materials, and uniforms.

IGRAO mobilizes community contributions, sponsors tuition for vulnerable learners, constructs classroom infrastructure, and provides essential learning kits. We also run community child safeguarding sessions to protect vulnerable youth.

PILLAR 02 • FOOD SOVEREIGNTY

SGA Livelihoods & Community Fish Farming

Our flagship Start Small and Grow to Achieve (SGA) project operates 7 community fish ponds in Kyebitaka Block 04 stocked with African catfish and tilapia, alongside 8 blocks of Matooke banana plantations.

This integrated farm ecosystem provides fresh, protein rich fish and fruit for school feeding programs twice weekly, while surplus yields are sold in local settlement markets to finance household necessities.

PILLAR 03 • CLIMATE RESTORATION

PNTH Project & Tree Planting

Under our People and Nature Thriving in Harmony (PNTH) initiative, we manage community tree nurseries in Kyebitaka that have distributed thousands of fruit and agroforestry seedlings across Kyangwali.

By planting boundary shade trees, avocado groves, and soil stabilizing species, refugee families restore depleted soil fertility, generate seasonal fruit harvests, and protect water drainage systems against extreme rains.

PILLAR 04 • WOMEN & YOUTH UPLIFTING

Vocational Skilling & VSLA Savings Circles

IGRAO trains refugee women and youth in high demand practical trades, including nursery management, organic compost preparation, poultry husbandry, and micro business record keeping.

Coupled with our Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA), participating mothers save small weekly shares, access low interest emergency credit, and launch micro enterprises that keep their children in school.
